The children learn about the seven principles which Unitarian Universalist congregations affirm and promote:

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

Grade 5 - Grade 6: Jesus and his Kingdom of Equals

(Booth and Morgan rooms (behind Unity Hall))

Jesus and his Kingdom of Equals is an interdenominational curriculum for children in grades 4 through 7. The objective of this curriculum is to give the children a comprehensive view of the life and teachings of Jesus as a great spiritual leader. The emphasis is on his teachings and ministry and not his role as the Son of God. The miracles are discussed but in a way that asks the children to think how the miracle might have really happened. For example, the miracle of the loaves and fishes (Jesus feeding the five thousand) could have been because Jesus inspired everyone to share the food that they had brought. The objective is to inspire the children to live lives where all are cared for and respected, and where we work to create the Kingdom of God here on earth rather than in heaven.

Grade 7 - Grade 8: D'oh God (the Simpsons)

(Room 1 Mirick Classroom)

The objective of this curriculum is to help the youth consider differing religious beliefs and ways in which our faith can help us understand our questions, seek answers, and deal with issues in our lives. The youth will learn how differing faith traditions respond to important theological and ethical issues, understand ways in which the right of conscience calls us to do what’s right, even if there are possible negative consequences, examine how our choices affect others around us as well as ourselves and explore how religious concepts are related to perspective and point of view.
